The TAMPCO Tone Oven Custom is a limited edition of the Tone Oven overdrive from Tampco Pedals, a French builder run by Rodolphe. The original Tone Oven has a reputation for warmth and transparency, and the Custom keeps that character while adding two things players asked for: the stock version's internal Bass and Comp trimmers brought out to the front panel, and a second saturation circuit called Grill, engaged by its own footswitch. It was announced on 23 September 2026, with the Custom Editions following on 28 September 2026 in Green, Black and Red at €199 EUR, which Guitar Pedal X notes is €10 more than the stock option12.

The controls and the Grill footswitch

Delicious Audio's product page names the output level control as Fan, and describes the Grill mode as a second, more aggressive saturation circuit engaged via a dedicated footswitch. That Grill circuit is inspired by hard-clipping architectures, a different clipping approach from the transparent base voice1.

The Custom's headline change is on the front panel. The original design required opening the enclosure to reach the internal Bass and Comp trimmers; the Custom relocates them as external toggle switches. Guitar Pedal X describes this as externalising the Bass Cut and Comp controls "for more on-the-fly versatility," where the stock version uses internal dip-switches12.

"Grill mode layers on a second, more aggressive saturation circuit (inspired by hard-clipping architectures) to instantly..."
Delicious Audio, Paolo De Gregorio1

Delicious Audio frames the two sides of the pedal as covering different jobs: as an always-on warmer pushing the front end of a tube amp, or with Grill mode kicked in for a biting, high-gain edge. The base voice is described as providing a transparent, organic foundation that preserves the instrument's core character1.

Circuit lineage

Guitar Pedal X reports that the Tone Oven is supposedly inspired by two known circuits: the Greer Lightspeed for the Start side and the Southland Harmonic Overdrive for the Grill side2. The Tone Oven design has also traveled in the other direction, into other builders' gear. The La Grotte spring reverb, a signature pedal made by Anasounds with Third Man Hardware for Jack White, carries an onboard preamp inspired by Tampco's Tone Oven. Anasounds' own history of the pedal says the preamp "adds a warm character and a slight saturation"453.

Questions

What is Grill mode on the Tampco Tone Oven Custom?

Grill mode is a second, more aggressive saturation circuit built into the Custom edition, engaged by its own dedicated footswitch. Delicious Audio describes it as inspired by hard-clipping architectures, and it is meant to take the pedal from its transparent base voice to a biting, high-gain edge at the tap of a switch.

What circuits is the Tone Oven Custom based on?

Guitar Pedal X reports that the Tone Oven is supposedly inspired by the Greer Lightspeed for its Start side and the Southland Harmonic Overdrive for the Grill circuit. The Tone Oven circuit itself has also been used elsewhere: Anasounds and Third Man Hardware's La Grotte reverb carries an onboard preamp based on it.

How is the Tone Oven Custom different from the regular Tone Oven?

The stock Tone Oven hides its Bass and Comp adjustments as internal dip-switches, which means opening the enclosure to change them. On the Custom edition those controls are externalised as front-panel toggle switches, so they can be adjusted on the fly. Guitar Pedal X lists the Custom at €199, which is €10 more than the stock option.

How much does the Tampco Tone Oven Custom cost?

Guitar Pedal X gives a price of €199 EUR as of 28 September 2026, noting that this is €10 more than the stock Tone Oven. That price applies to the Green, Black and Red colourways.

What colors does the Tone Oven Custom come in?

Guitar Pedal X lists the Custom Editions in Green, Black and Red colourways, all at the same €199 price.
