The Tech 21 Killer Blue Wail is a wah pedal made for bass, part of the company's Killer Wail family of wahs. Unlike a guitar wah, which can pull the bottom out of a bass signal, Tech 21 designed it to keep the low-end intact while the filter sweeps1. It sits alongside the company's other bass effects, from the SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2 to the Red Ripper, and fits the broader field of wah pedals and bass pedals.

The spring-loaded rocker

The Killer Blue Wail's treadle works differently from a conventional wah. Premier Guitar reports that it, like the Richie Kotzen Signature RK Killer Wail, uses a spring-loaded rocker: "It returns the treadle to its resting/bypass position when you remove your foot and automatically engages when you press forward."1

For a player, that means the wah is off whenever your foot leaves the pedal and on the moment you lean into it, with no switch to stomp separately. It is a hands-free arrangement suited to parts where the wah comes and goes rather than staying on all the time1.

Availability

The pedal was announced in April 2025, when Premier Guitar reported that Tech 21 was moving the Killer Wail from Private Stock limited editions into full-scale production in three versions: the Killer Wail v2, the Richie Kotzen Signature RK Killer Wail, and the Killer Blue Wail for bass, with anticipated worldwide availability of April/May 20251. Tech 21's own product page for the Killer Blue Wail Bass Wah later listed anticipated availability as August 20252.

The two dates differ: Premier Guitar's announcement anticipated April/May 2025 availability, while Tech 21's product page lists August 2025. The maker's page is the newer figure.

Questions

How does the Killer Blue Wail's rocker pedal work?

The Killer Blue Wail uses a spring-loaded rocker. When you take your foot off the treadle, it returns to its resting position and the effect goes to bypass. Pressing forward on the treadle engages the wah automatically, so there is no separate on/off switch to hunt for while playing.

When was the Tech 21 Killer Blue Wail released?

Premier Guitar reported the pedal as part of Tech 21's 2025 move of the Killer Wail line into full-scale production, with anticipated worldwide availability of April/May 2025. Tech 21's own product page later listed anticipated availability for the Killer Blue Wail Bass Wah as August 2025.
