The TENTEN Triangle is a fuzz pedal from TENTEN Devices that departs from the usual pedalboard format: it attaches directly to your guitar with suction cups, so the controls sit under your picking hand and can be adjusted while you play. Delicious Audio described it as "an odd fuzz pedal," and noted that it has no footswitch at all, which makes sense once you know where it lives1.
What it does
The Triangle is a fuzz in the broad family covered on Fuzz Pedals, but its defining feature is the mounting. As Delicious Audio put it: "it comes with suction cups. You can plunk this thing on your guitar, and mess with the fuzz WHILE YOU PLAY"1. Because there is no footswitch, the pedal is meant to be manipulated by hand in real time rather than switched in and out of a signal chain.
TENTEN's own description of the circuit is brief. The maker's words, quoted by Delicious Audio: "Hi. This is Triangle. It messes up things."1
The Fuzz Factory connection
TENTEN cites the Z.Vex Fuzz Factory as an influence on the circuit1. The Fuzz Factory is known for the extreme, unstable textures its Stability control can produce, and Delicious Audio heard something similar in the Triangle:
"The Triangle seems capable of a similar feats. Having this type of control while actually playing, instead of having to..."
The pedal comes with suction cups so it can be mounted on the guitar and adjusted while playing, which TENTEN presents as the point of the design: "You can plunk this thing on your guitar, and mess with the fuzz WHILE YOU PLAY"1.
Seeing and hearing it
A demo video shows the Triangle applied to an electric guitar, and two more videos on tentendevices.com cover its use with electronic instruments1.
