The Tone Factor Nebula Phaser is a phaser pedal built by Tone Factor, the retailer that also made pedals under its own name. It is a two-stage phaser, which makes it more subtle than the four-stage designs most players know, and it is controlled with a single button. The pedal is no longer in production.1
What it does
The Nebula's two-stage circuit sets it apart from the common four-stage phaser. Pedal of the Day's Mike B. described it as "a 2-stage phaser that is more subtle than a 4-stage model," and noted that "the circuit is loosely based on the Phase 45 / DOD 201 circuit."1
Because there is only one button to operate, there are no rate, depth or feedback knobs to set: the pedal does its one thing and stays out of the way. Mike B. summed up the sound as "Lots of Uni-Vibe-type tones coming out of this little box, sitting more in the high-end and adding a liquidy texture and clarity."1
Background and reviewer's view
Tone Factor is known as a pedal retailer, but as Mike B. put it, "Tone Factor is a great place to get great pedals, but did you know they used to BUILD them, too?" The Nebula was one of the pedals the company built itself.1
His verdict on the pedal was positive on both sound and construction: "it sounds fantastic, and is definitely built to last." He called it "a great pedal that is sadly no longer in production," and counted it among Tone Factor's oldest and best pedals for build quality and sound.1
The Tone Factor Nebula Phaser is discontinued. A later pedal carrying the Nebula Phaser name is made by Mojo Hand FX, a phaser covered separately by Pedal of the Day in 2023.2
