The Trace Elliot Dual Band Compressor is a compressor pedal for bass guitar from Trace Elliot, made by Peavey. It applies dual band compression, meaning it compresses the low and high parts of your bass signal separately, with independent controls for each band. Peavey describes it as delivering "classic dual band compression for any bass guitar application"1.

The circuit is taken from Trace Elliot's own amplifiers. Premier Guitar's press release explains the approach: "By extracting the compression circuit from the TE-1200 bass amplifier and dropping it into a pedal format"2. The pedal was introduced in March 2026 and, per Premier Guitar, is "now available worldwide online or at local retailers" at a retail price of $199.99 USD2.

What dual band compression does here

A conventional compressor acts on the whole signal at once. A dual band design splits the signal into a low band and a high band and compresses each on its own, so tightening one end of your tone does not squash the other. On this pedal, separate LO BAND and HI BAND controls adjust the amount of compression separately for the low and high bands14. Peavey says the two controls "allow you to achieve your ideal balance of sub-pumping weight, midrange punch, and top-end snap and definition"1.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
INPUT LEVELAdjusts the input volume of the instrument1
LO BANDAdjusts the amount of compression for the low band14
HI BANDAdjusts the amount of compression for the high band14
OUTPUT LEVELAdjusts the volume of the output leaving the pedal1

The knobs are black domed knobs, per Bass Musician Magazine's press release4.

Make-up gain and volume

Compression usually lowers the overall level, so the pedal applies make-up gain after the compression. Peavey states: "Built in make-up gain is applied after the compression to maintain the original volume level or desired loudness"1. The OUTPUT LEVEL control then sets the volume of the signal leaving the pedal1.

Power and connections

The pedal runs from a standard 9VDC power supply or a 9V battery. Peavey notes that a "Bipolar 18v internal supply is achieved from any standard 9VDC power supply or battery," meaning the pedal generates its internal -9V/+9V rails from that single 9V source1. The audio connections are 1/4" TRS input and output, with an input impedance of 1.1M and an output impedance of 1k13.

Peavey's international product page lists the same specifications and gives a UK price of £152.00 GBP1. The US retail price is $199.99 USD2.

Build and bypass

The pedal is built in a "rugged die cast enclosure and top shelf components," which Peavey says is built to endure any hard-hitting performance1. It is a true bypass pedal, and Peavey says that "with its true bypass operation, this pedal integrates seamlessly into any signal chain"1.

Questions

Can the Trace Elliot Dual Band Compressor run on a battery?

Yes. Peavey's product page says the pedal preserves the full dynamic range of your bass signal from a 9V battery or DC power source, and that the bipolar 18V internal supply is achieved from any standard 9VDC power supply or battery.

Is the Trace Elliot Dual Band Compressor true bypass?

Yes. According to Peavey, the pedal has true bypass operation, which the maker says lets it integrate seamlessly into any signal chain.

What is dual band compression?

Dual band compression splits the signal into a low band and a high band and compresses each separately. On this pedal, separate LO BAND and HI BAND controls let the player adjust the amount of compression for the low and high bands independently, which Peavey says lets you balance sub-pumping weight, midrange punch, and top-end snap and definition.

Does the pedal have make-up gain?

Yes. Peavey says built-in make-up gain is applied after the compression to maintain the original volume level or desired loudness, and a separate OUTPUT LEVEL control adjusts the volume of the output leaving the pedal.

Who makes Trace Elliot pedals?

Trace Elliot pedals are made by Peavey, which lists the Dual Band Compressor on its own product pages as the Trace Elliot Dual Band Compressor Pedal.

What is the input impedance of the Dual Band Compressor?

Peavey lists the impedance as 1.1M In / 1k Out, with a 1/4-inch TRS audio input and a 1/4-inch TRS audio output.
