TWA Microchasm Octave Box Fuzz

Fuzz

The TWA Microchasm Octave Box Fuzz is an octave fuzz pedal, shown as new at the 2020 NAMM show. It is built around the octave circuit from the TWA Great Divide, and it combines fuzz with octave down, octave up, filtering, and Octavia-style features, so a player can dial in a range of classic octave effect sounds from one box.1

What it does

The Microchasm's core is its octave section, taken from the TWA Great Divide. Godlyke's NAMM 2020 announcement describes the pedal's octave features: "Octave down, up, filtering, and Octavia-style features allow the user to select from many different, classic, octave effects."1

That puts it in the same family as other octave fuzz designs, where the fuzz circuit and an octave circuit work together to produce notes above or below the pitch you play. For a wider look at the type, see Octave & Pitch Pedals and Fuzz Pedals.

Solo mode and external footswitch

One distinguishing feature is the pedal's solo mode. The Microchasm accepts an external footswitch, which lets the player turn the octave effect on and off as desired while keeping hands on the guitar. That makes it possible to play clean-ish fuzz passages and then kick in the octave for accents or solos without re-programming the pedal mid-song.1

Where it sits in TWA's range

TWA, the brand behind the Microchasm, is distributed through Godlyke, and the Microchasm's octave circuit is drawn from the company's own TWA Great Divide.1

The Microchasm was announced at NAMM 2020.
