The Walrus Audio Fundamental Series Ambient is a compact reverb pedal built around three atmospheric modes, from deep, dark pad-like sounds to AM Radio-like lo-fi sounds. It is part of Walrus Audio's Fundamental Series, a line the maker positions around simplified controls that are, in Walrus's words, "friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users."1
What it does
Walrus Audio describes the Ambient as bringing "expansive pillowy reverb to the Fundamental Series with three atmospheric modes in a compact" enclosure.1 With its three reverb algorithms, the maker says you can experiment with deep, dark pad-like sounds through to AM Radio-like lo-fi sounds, and a three-way switch selects between the algorithms.1
The Fundamental Series as a whole is built on the same idea. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the series reverb as providing "the core sounds of ambient effects," and RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as covering the core sounds of ambient effects with simplified controls, from an ambient hall to an analog spring emulation and a bright plate emulation.23
Where it sits in the Fundamental Series
The Ambient is a later addition to the line. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson covered it as "the Fundamental Ambient brings expansive pillowy reverb to the Fundamental Series with three atmospheric modes in a comp[act]" enclosure, describing the series' controls as "simplified controls friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users."1 The pedal carries a list price of $99.99 USD.1
For players comparing it with Walrus Audio's larger reverb pedals, such as the Walrus Audio Slö, Walrus Audio Fathom or Walrus Audio Slöer Stereo Ambient Reverb, the Ambient stands apart with its compact size, its three-mode layout and its $99.99 list price.1 For a wider view of the category, see Reverb Pedals.
