The Whirlwind WT1000 is a compact tuner, described by the maker as "an economical and feature packed device!"1 It tunes from a 1/4 inch input jack or from its built-in microphone, so it works with a plugged-in electric as well as an acoustic instrument, and Whirlwind describes it as "remarkably sensitive and stable for simple, easy tuning."1
What it does
The WT1000 covers the common tuning jobs in one small unit. In auto mode it recognizes the note you play and shows how close you are, and you can set it for chromatic tuning or for the specific string sets of guitar, bass or violin. A manual mode is there as well if you would rather step through strings yourself.1
Two things to tune from: the 1/4 inch input jack for a plugged-in instrument, or the built-in mic for tuning an acoustic instrument in the room. The display combines an LCD meter with sharp, flat and in tune LEDs, so you can read your pitch at a glance from either a meter needle position or a simple light.1
Reference pitch and power
The reference pitch is adjustable from A=433 to A=447, which is useful if you need to match an ensemble or recording that does not sit at the standard A=440.1
Power comes from 2 AAA batteries.1
The WT1000 is battery powered, running on 2 AAA batteries.1
Where it sits among tuners
The WT1000 is a small, battery-powered tuner rather than a pedalboard tuner that sits in your signal chain. If you are comparing it with pedal-style units, the Tuner Pedals page covers the wider field, including compact options like the MOOER Baby Tuner and the NUX PT-6 Pedal Tuner, and larger stage tuners like the Boss TU3 Tuner.
