The WMD Overseer is a stereo filter pedal designed for the master bus, meaning it is meant to sit at the end of a signal chain and shape the whole stereo mix rather than one instrument's tone. WMD describes it as inspired by the filters commonly found on DJ mixers and DJ software: a single knob sweeps a high-pass and a low-pass filter, so turning it one way thins out the lows and the other way rolls off the highs, the sweeping "filter drop" move familiar from dance music1.
WMD lists the Overseer as discontinued, so it is no longer in production1.
What it does
The Overseer puts two filters on one knob. Sweep it and the high-pass and low-pass filters move in opposite directions, letting you carve away the bottom or the top of a stereo signal in real time. WMD also built in what it calls a "Tilt" function, which offsets the filter cutoff frequency across the stereo field, so the left and right channels can be filtered differently for a widening, sweeping effect1.
Beyond the main knob, the pedal has stereo inputs and outputs, a bypass switch, and an HP jack that accepts control voltage for the high-pass filter, allowing the filter to be swept from an external source1.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bypass switch | Turns the filter on and off. The LED is red when the filter is engaged, and the switch toggles on button release1 |
| HP jack | CV input for the high-pass filter1 |
Related WMD filters
WMD has built a range of filter pedals beyond the Overseer, including the WMD Protostar, the WMD Synchrodyne Expand, the WMD Micro Hadron Collider, the WMD Multimode Filter, and the WMD Quad Anti Aliasing Filter. For more on the effect type itself, see Filter Pedals.
