Yellowcake Pedals FOOM Fuzz

The Yellowcake Pedals FOOM Fuzz is a compact fuzz pedal with a single control, built around a Muff-style distortion character. What it does

The FOOM Fuzz sits in the fuzz family, and its character is close to the Big Muff school of distortion. Pedal of the Day's reviewer summed it up: "This simple, velcro-like fuzz gives you some very Muff-esque types of distortion, and all you have to do is gently turn" the single knob¹. In practice that means one control sweeps the pedal through progressively heavier degrees of fuzz, from a lightly broken-up texture to a full, saturated filth, with no tone or level knobs to balance.

Design and build

The pedal is built to suit dropped tunings, a deliberate design choice rather than an accident of the circuit¹. The enclosure is powder coated and UV printed, and like all Yellowcake products it is hand wired in the USA¹.

Where it sits in Yellowcake's range

The FOOM Fuzz is the simplest expression of Yellowcake's fuzz designs. The maker's other fuzz-based pedals add more circuitry: the Furry Burrito is a standalone fuzz, and the Furry & Fried combines the Furry Burrito and Fried Gold circuits in one two-channel unit². Players who want more controls than the FOOM's single knob can look there; players who want one knob and nothing else are the FOOM's audience.
