The Zoom G2.1DM is a Dave Mustaine Signature Edition guitar effects pedal: a multi-FX unit built around Zoom's capture of the Megadeth guitarist's thrash metal sound. Zoom and Mustaine introduced it as an all-new product at a press conference at NAMM 2011, held at the Zoom booth (#5940) on Saturday, January 15, from 1:00pm to 1:30pm1.
What it does
As a multi-effects pedal, the G2.1DM puts a range of effect types in one floor unit rather than asking a player to chain separate stompboxes. What sets this version apart is the signature: Zoom describes it as the company's capture of Mustaine's thrash metal guitar sound, worked into the pedal's presets and voicing1.
Mustaine was directly involved in the design. The pedal carries a large onboard expression pedal, which he described as "a large expression pedal modeled after the accelerator of one of my favorite sports cars onboard"1. An expression pedal of this kind lets a player control parameters such as volume or effect depth with their foot while both hands stay on the guitar, a format Zoom uses across much of its multi-effects range, from the Zoom G2.1u to the Zoom G2.1Nu.
"Zoom has been fully-committed to capturing his thrash metal guitar sound in the G2.1DM"
Where it came from
The G2.1DM was revealed at NAMM 2011, the winter trade show where makers announce new gear. Zoom's press conference with Mustaine took place on Saturday, January 15, at the Zoom booth, and the announcement named him as guitarist and lead vocalist of Megadeth1. It belongs to Zoom's long line of guitar multi-effects pedals, a range that runs from compact units like the Zoom G1X FOUR to flagship floor units like the Zoom G6 and Zoom G11.
Support
Zoom's own support page for the G2.1DM lists Zoom North America as the contact for the product, reachable by phone at 631.542.52702.
