current draw

Current draw is the amount of electrical current, measured in milliamps (mA), that a pedal consumes from its power supply or battery12. Manufacturers list it in pedal specifications, and it varies widely, from 4 mA for the Boss SG-1 to 300 mA for the Walrus Audio Canvas Volume13. It matters when sizing a power supply: Brian Wampler advises that the supply should provide more than the total current draw of all pedals, since daisy chaining underpowered pedals can make them noisy or underperforming4. Reviewers also note when a pedal's draw is high relative to its type, such as the Blackstar Dept. 10 Boost, whose power supply should be chosen accordingly5.
