detune

Detune is a pitch effect that slightly shifts a signal's tuning, often by splitting the signal and detuning one part for a chorus-like result12. Sources describe it as an onboard polyphonic pitch effect, such as a stereo detuner3, and as a mode on pitch pedals that mixes a subtle pitch shift with the original tone for a spacey, ambient sound4. Boss's Detune mode provides chorus-like effects usable with three-voice harmony5, and DigiTech's Detune presets sound lush and organic thanks to unpredictable wavering6. Detune also appears as a control on chorus pedals, where it shapes the intensity of the modulation78.
