The Millie Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from 6 Degrees FX, and the first pedal that maker released. Pedal of the Day reviewed it in February 2015, describing it as based on the old Fuzz Face pedals but incorporating the EQ specs from a Big Muff, with two stages of gain controlled by two separate footswitches.1

Two channels, from mild to raging

The right-side footswitch engages the Crunch Channel, which the reviewer called "a wonderful silicon fuzz tone" with enough range and flexibility to fit any player's low-gain fuzz needs. The left-side footswitch is the Burn Channel, which adds another gain stage for stronger, thicker, more aggressive fuzz sounds. Being able to jump from a smoother, milder fuzz to what the reviewer called "a raging terror" in one stomp was a highlight of the design.1

The Gain knob stretches from a mild drive to a big time fuzzy crunch, and the Tone control has what the reviewer described as a huge range, from swampy, dirty, sludge-ridden doom fuzz up to the brightest and sunniest fuzz tones. His verdict: "Not to mention it sounds incredible…"1

Controls and internal trimpots

Level, Tone and Gain make up the main top-panel controls. Inside the pedal, two trimpots shape the character further1:

  • Trimpot 1: adjusts the overall attitude of the Burn Channel, from mild-mannered to super-aggressive
  • Trimpot 2: dials in the mids, either fat or scooped1

Build and size

The enclosure is described as a big, thick piece of metal, with nice big knobs and easily accessible footswitches, standing 2 full inches high.1

The Millie Fuzz dates from 2015, when 6 Degrees FX was just starting out as a pedal maker.1

Questions

What is the difference between the Crunch and Burn channels on the Millie Fuzz?

The right-side footswitch engages the Crunch Channel, which Pedal of the Day's reviewer described as a wonderful silicon fuzz tone with enough range and flexibility to fit any player's low-gain fuzz needs. The left-side footswitch engages the Burn Channel, which adds another gain stage for stronger, thicker, more aggressive fuzz sounds. The two switches give you two stages of gain you can jump between in one stomp.

What do the internal trimpots on the Millie Fuzz do?

Trimpot 1 adjusts the overall attitude of the Burn Channel, from mild-mannered to super-aggressive. Trimpot 2 dials in the mids, either fat or scooped. Both are inside the pedal, so you set them with a small screwdriver to taste rather than adjusting them from the top panel.

Does the Millie Fuzz use silicon transistors?

Yes. The Crunch Channel is described by Pedal of the Day as a silicon fuzz tone, and the pedal's circuit is based on the old Fuzz Face pedals, with the EQ specs of a Big Muff incorporated into the design.

How tall is the Millie Fuzz?

Pedal of the Day's review puts the enclosure at 2 full inches high, in a big, thick piece of metal with large knobs and easily accessible footswitches.
