The Alexander Pedals F.13 is a three-mode flanger pedal that, in Premier Guitar's reviewer's words, "does everything a standard flanger can" and then goes further, with a Dynamic mode among its three modes1. It was first shown as a new release at Summer NAMM 2015, where Premier Guitar described it and the Golden Summer reverb as two new handbuilt, flexible stompboxes from the North Carolina maker2.
What it does
As a flanger, the F.13 sits in the same family of effects as pedals like the Boss BF-3 Flanger and the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, producing the swept, jet-like filtering that defines flanger pedals. Premier Guitar's reviewer described warped, alien flange tones and singled out the deep modes, listing "Mind-bending flange tones. Deep modes." among the pedal's strengths1.
The Dynamic mode is the distinguishing feature. In some of the more extreme settings, the reviewer found the pedal produced faux envelope filter sounds, letting it move beyond conventional flanging into filter-like territory1.
The F.13 Neo
In 2018, Alexander Pedals released a new version of the pedal, the F.13 Neo Series Flanger. As Delicious Audio reported, "The F.13 Neo adds additional controls in all modes, more patterns in Step mode, and the all-new Echo Flanger effect." The maker's own description of the pedal ran: "Equal parts science, art, weapon and instrument, the F.13 Neo generates interplanetary flange never heard in this galaxy"3.
A limited black version of the F.13 Neo was also built: 13 copies, made to mark Friday the 13th3.
The F.13 Neo is a separate version of the F.13, not a replacement under the same name. Later, the maker's Dynaflanger Model 213 was described by the maker as sitting alongside the F.13 and F.13N as "benchmarks for flanging excellence"4.
What reviewers said
Premier Guitar's reviewer tested the F.13 with a Fender Stratocaster, a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a Wild Customs Wildmaster, and came away with praise for its mind-bending flange tones and its deep modes1. Guitar World's buying guide categorizes the F.13 Neo as a modern flanger5.
