The AMT O-BASS is a bass preamp pedal made by AMT Electronics. AMT describes it as the bass preamp in its Bricks series, and says the basis of its sound is the nature of a legendary bass amp, the Orange AD1. It is aimed at bass players who want an amp-style front end on a pedalboard, feeding a power amp, an FRFR speaker or a recording setup rather than a traditional bass head.
What it does
The O-BASS follows the amp-in-a-pedal approach: it models the preamp and power amp stages of a bass amplifier and adds speaker simulation on top. The feature set, as listed by AMT, breaks down like this34:
- Analog preamp with Clean, Low gain and High gain modes3
- Power Amp section with 9 types3
- Parametric Pre/Post EQ5
- IR cabsim, with 1 IR for both L/R channels per preset4
- Noise Gate, as a global setting2
The preamp stage is analog, with a three-way gain choice that covers clean, lightly pushed and driven sounds. The power amp section offers nine types, so the same preamp voicing can be paired with different power amp characters. The parametric EQ can be placed before or after the preamp stage, which changes whether it shapes the raw instrument signal or the amp's response. The IR cab simulation loads one impulse response covering both left and right channels per preset, and a global noise gate sits across the whole unit rather than per preset43.
Where it sits in AMT's range
The O-BASS is one of AMT's bass-oriented preamps alongside the AMT Bricks A-Bass and the AMT A-bass, and it belongs to the wider AMT BRICKS preamps family of amp-style pedals. Players comparing bass preamps can also see the broader field on the Preamp Pedals and Bass Pedals pages12.
