AMT BRICKS preamps are a series of compact preamp pedals from AMT Electronics, each pedal carrying one amp-style voicing that players can use on its own or combined with others in the line. The idea behind the Bricks format is that a player builds a rig from individual blocks: a clean or lead preamp for guitar, a bass voicing for bass rigs, stacked as needed on a pedalboard. The series sits alongside AMT's other preamp pedals, such as the AMT SS-20 and AMT SS-11A, which take a similar approach in different housings1.
The Bricks range
The line covers several distinct voicings, each sold as its own pedal:
- AMT Bricks F-Clean, a clean voicing
- AMT Bricks Vx-Clean, a clean voicing
- AMT Bricks P-Lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks M-Lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks B-Lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks D-Lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks X-Lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks R/S-lead, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks Vt-LEAD, a lead voicing
- AMT Bricks A-Bass, AMT Bricks O-Bass and the AMT Bass Bricks line for bass players
For players comparing the Bricks with AMT's other preamp families, the AMT Legend Amps P2 and the AMT P1 are separate designs with their own feature sets, and the AMT Preamp Switching System (V1, O2, P2, WH-1) shows how several AMT preamps can be combined in one rig1.
Shared features
AMT's own detailed review of the Bricks preamps lists a Noise Gate as a global setting across the series, described by the maker as "Noise Gate (global setting)"1. A global setting means the gate is configured once for the unit rather than adjusted per preset, which matters when a player switches between clean and high-gain voicings during a set. For more on how gates work in a signal chain, see Noise Gate Pedals.
Where a Bricks preamp fits
A preamp pedal replaces or supplements the preamp section of an amplifier: the stage that sets gain, EQ and overall character before the power amp and speaker. Players use Bricks units in front of a clean power amp, into the return of an amp's effects loop, or as a dedicated drive voicing on a pedalboard. AMT's media center has published a full detailed review of the Bricks preamps covering the series as a whole1.
