The Analog Man Colby OG-1 is an overdrive pedal introduced in 2025, built as a tribute to the Boss OD-1, one of the first Boss Compact pedals, released in 1977. It is a collaboration between Mike of Analog Man and Mitch Colby of Colby Amplification; the two go back a long way, since Colby sold Mike an OD-1 more than 30 years ago while working at Korg/Marshall.1

What it does and how it differs from the original

The OG-1 uses the same parts as the early OD-1, with one change: Analog Man added true bypass switching. The maker states that apart from that, the sound is the same as an old OD-1, though levels may need to be set differently because of the audio taper volume pot.1

The build is aimed at the long haul. The circuit is hand wired with all through hole parts, which the maker points to for easy repairs. The power jack sits on the side of the pedal, and the input and output jacks are on the top for an efficient layout on pedalboards.1

Because the pedal uses less than 4 mA of power when off, and 6 when on, an alkaline battery will last over a hundred hours of normal playing time.1

The OG-1 sits alongside Analog Man's other OD-1 related offerings. On the OD-1 page, the maker describes an OD-1 VINTAGE mod offered as standard, substituting old capacitor values, and an OD-1 VINTAGE CHIP mod using a JRC3403D chip, which Mike describes as "like two JRC4558D chips, awesome tone".2

For context on where the OG-1 fits, see the Overdrive Pedals type page, or the Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer comparison for two related drive circuits, and Analog Man's own Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer (Silver Mod).
