The Anasounds Sandman Double Overdrive is a dual overdrive pedal that combines two of the maker's earlier single pedals in one enclosure. Pedal of the Day describes it as "a pedal that brings together Anasounds' successful Savage MkI (left footswitch with the large knobs) and the FX Teacher" Ego Driver circuit, with upgrades over the originals1. Each half of the pedal is its own overdrive channel, so the Sandman can stand in for two separate drive pedals on a board; for the individual circuits, see the Anasounds Savage and the Anasounds Ego Driver.
What it does
The Sandman carries two footswitches, one for each channel, and the two channels can be used separately or together for different textures1. That means a player can set one side as a lighter drive and the other as a heavier one, then stack them or use either on its own, without giving up the pedalboard space two units would take.
The Sandman's two channels have their own history: Anasounds built it by bringing together two of the company's previous pedals, the Savage MkI (the left footswitch with the large knobs) and the FX Teacher Ego Driver1.
Experimenting with clipping diodes
One feature sets the Sandman apart from a straightforward two-in-one: Anasounds has provided an extra internal slot for clipping diodes, for players who want to experiment with different diode types and how the drive clips1. Swapping clipping diodes is a common way players tailor an overdrive's compression and edge, and having a dedicated slot means that can be done without modifying the board.
