The Ashdown Dr. Green Bass Verb is a bass reverb pedal, part of the Dr. Green range of bass effects made by Ashdown Engineering. It is built for bass players who want a bit of space around their core tone without losing the fundamental of the instrument. Delicious Audio's Gus described it as "Simply a fantastic quality and easy-to-use reverb pedal made for bass players who need a bit of space around their core" tone.1
What it does
The Bass Verb adds reverb to a bass signal. Its main control is a wet/dry blend, so the player sets how much of the reverberated signal is mixed against the dry bass tone. Ashdown's press material describes the range of sounds this covers: "from endless cathedral style reverb to nice, tight, subtle, short plate style".2
For a bass player, the wet/dry approach matters because reverb on bass is usually used sparingly: enough wash to give notes air, with the dry low end kept intact underneath. The pedal is presented as easy to use, with the wet/dry control as the way to "easily dial in the perfect reverb".1
Where it came from
Ashdown describes the Bass Verb's range of reverb sounds as "from endless cathedral style reverb to nice, tight, subtle, short plate style"1.
In the Dr. Green range
The Bass Verb sits alongside four other Dr. Green pedals, each covering a different bass effect:
| Pedal | Effect |
|---|---|
| The Aspirin | Bass compression1 |
| OctaDose | Bass octave1 |
| Doctors Note | Envelope filter1 |
| Bass Verb | Bass reverb1 |
| Bearded Lady | Bass fuzz1 |
Ashdown has continued to build out its bass pedal line since, with later releases including the Lomenzo Mega Drive and the Triple Shot. For other reverb options, see the site's guide to reverb pedals, and for the wider picture, bass pedals.
