The Ashdown Dr. Green OctaDose is a bass octave pedal, part of the Dr. Green range of bass effects. Ashdown describes it as taking what the company learned from its tried-and-tested sub harmonizer in the ABM range of bass amplifiers, expanded by Dr. Green. Simple rotary controls let the player set the wet and dry signals and the amount of octave, which Ashdown says makes it easy to dial in anything from subtle undertones to full-on sub-synth bass.1

What it does

An octave pedal adds a note an octave below (or above) what you play, thickening the low end or producing synth-like sub bass. The OctaDose grew out of circuitry Ashdown players already knew: the company describes it as taking what it learned from its "tried-and-tested sub harmonizer" in the ABM range of bass amplifiers and expanding it into a pedal for the Dr. Green line.1

Ashdown's claim for its tracking is specific: "The OctaDose will track down to a low-B with the utmost precision."2 For five-string players, that means the pedal is built to follow the lowest string on a standard-tuned bass rather than losing the note.

Controls

The pedal keeps things simple. Delicious Audio describes "control over wet and dry signals and amount of octave the user wants to add," all via simple rotary knobs.1

  • Wet/dry control: blends the octave effect against your clean bass signal1
  • Octave amount: sets how much octave is added1
  • Rotary knobs: Ashdown says they make it easy to dial in "anything from subtle undertones to full-on sub-synth bass"1

The same simple rotary approach runs through the range: the companion Dr. Green Doctors Note uses rotary controls to dial in and set its oscillating frequencies.1

Where it sits in the Dr. Green range

The OctaDose was one of five Dr. Green bass pedals at launch, each covering a different effect:

If you are browsing by effect type rather than range, the OctaDose belongs to the broader family of Octave & Pitch Pedals and to Bass Pedals generally.
