Beetronics Royal Jelly Custom Shop Ouija Silver

The Beetronics Royal Jelly Custom Shop Ouija Silver is a Custom Shop edition of the Royal Jelly, Beetronics' overdrive and fuzz pedal. Beetronics describes the Royal Jelly as "a powerful blend of overdrive and fuzz with endless tonal possibilities," and elsewhere as an "overdrive/fuzz blender like no other pedal"¹². The Custom Shop Ouija Silver takes that same circuit and wraps it in a one-off finish, sold as an individually numbered unit rather than a standard production model.

Like most Custom Shop and limited edition Royal Jelly units, the Ouija Silver is listed by the maker as sold out¹. Beetronics is a California-based boutique pedal maker³, and gearnews.com described the Royal Jelly in 2018 as "this handmade American boutique pedal"⁴.

An overdrive and fuzz pedal from the Royal Jelly line

The Royal Jelly sits in Beetronics' fuzz lineup as a pedal that combines two gain flavors in one box. Beetronics' own copy for the line reads: "The Royal Jelly drips tone and it's a pedal that can change your approach to overdrive and fuzz"⁶. The maker positions it as a blender, meaning the overdrive and fuzz sides can be mixed rather than switched between, which is what separates it from a straight overdrive or standalone fuzz box.

The Custom Shop Ouija Silver is one entry in a wide family of Royal Jelly variants. Beetronics' product pages show the line spread across several categories¹⁵⁷:

• Standard Royal Jelly units
• Limited editions, such as the Royal Jelly Limited Edition and 4th Limited Edition⁷⁸
• Custom Shop editions, individually numbered, such as RJ3533, RJ3528, RJ3425 and RJ3538⁵
• Named customs, such as the Custom Seiva, Custom Diamond Dust and "Blue Squid" Custom⁹¹⁰¹¹

Custom Shop editions of the Royal Jelly

On Beetronics' site, Custom Shop marks individually numbered versions of a pedal, each with its own finish. The Ouija Silver belongs to a run of Royal Jelly Custom Shop units that includes RJ3533, RJ3528, RJ3425 and RJ3538⁵. Other numbered Custom Shop Royal Jelly units include RJ1972, RJ3247 and RJ2857, and a "Custom Shop 420" edition of the Royal Jelly Fuzz/OD Blender⁶¹²¹³.

The Custom Shop concept runs across the whole Beetronics range, not just the Royal Jelly. The maker's pages list an Octahive V2 Custom Shop Ouija, an Overhive Custom Shop Ouija, a Seabee Harmochorus Custom Shop and Zzombee Filtremulator Custom Shop units¹⁴¹⁵. Beetronics describes one Custom Shop pedal as "a hand painted Custom Shop pedal"¹⁵, which points to what the Custom Shop label means in practice: unique, hand-finished enclosures on otherwise standard circuits.

Availability and returns

The Ouija Silver is listed at a regular price of £270.00 GBP by the maker, and is sold out¹. Beetronics' product pages for Royal Jelly Custom Shop units carry a 14-day money back guarantee⁵, the same guarantee stated on the standard Royal Jelly pages¹⁶.

The maker's return terms come with a condition worth knowing: on returned Royal Jelly units, "there might be a modest restocking fee of 15%, or the possibility of receiving store credit instead" if the product shows wear and tear or is missing accessories². A full refund requires the pedal back in new condition in its original packaging¹⁷.

How it differs from the standard Royal Jelly

The Custom Shop Ouija Silver is the same overdrive/fuzz blender circuit in a distinct, individually numbered finish, sold as a single unit. The standard Royal Jelly and the Royal Jelly OD/Fuzz carry the same maker description of the circuit and the same 14-day guarantee¹⁶. What a Custom Shop unit adds is the finish and the numbering, not a different circuit.
