The Boss GE-7B Bass Equalizer is an analog equalizer pedal for bass, classified simply as an "EQUALIZER" in RockBoard's PedalPedia listing. It sits in the same family as Boss's other bass EQ pedals, including the Boss GEB-7 7-Band Bass EQ and the BOSS PQ-3B, and belongs to the broader group of Equalization Pedals.1
Power and versions
The GE-7B runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 12mA.1 There are two versions of the pedal: the original ACA-powered GE-7B and a newer PSA-powered version, so the supply a given pedal needs depends on which version it is.2
Because there are ACA-powered and PSA-powered versions of the GE-7B, the correct power supply differs between the two. Check which version you have before powering it.2
The Fromel modification kit
Fromel Electronics sells a modification kit for the GE-7B, and their product page is blunt about the stock pedal: "Tired of the hiss, ice-pick highs, and general tone-suck of the stock Boss GE-7B?"2 That criticism is the reason the kit exists, and it is why some players associate the GE-7B with added hiss.
According to Fromel, the kit corrects the cheap, non-audio components Boss used while keeping the EQ usable as a transparent boost. Unlike other mods that change the corner frequencies, Fromel says this kit leaves them alone, so a player can still get a flat response for a clean boost.2
The kit comes in one version, the Supreme Kit, which includes all the parts plus full-color online instructions.2
What you need to install it yourself:
- Your Boss GE-7B pedal
- A soldering iron and solder
- Desoldering braid and/or a solder sucker
- A Phillips screwdriver
- Wire clippers2
The Fromel kit works on through-hole GE-7Bs only. Boss began using surface-mount (SMD) boards on some pedals in 2017, and the kit will not fit those SMD boards.2
If you would rather not solder, Fromel also offers to do the work: send them your pedal and they will install the kit for you.2

Questions
Is the Boss GE-7B analog or digital?
The GE-7B is an analog pedal. RockBoard's PedalPedia listing for the pedal gives its circuit type as analog, so it shapes the signal with analog filter stages rather than digital processing.
What power supply does the Boss GE-7B need?
The GE-7B runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 12mA. There are two versions of the pedal: the original ACA-powered version and a newer PSA-powered version, so the supply you need depends on which version you have.
Is there a manual for the Boss GE-7B?
Yes. Boss's English-language owner's manual for the GE-7B is available as a PDF from Roland's document library, and RockBoard's PedalPedia page for the pedal links to it directly.
What is the Fromel mod kit for the GE-7B?
Fromel Electronics sells a modification kit for the GE-7B that replaces what Fromel calls the cheap, non-audio components Boss used. The Supreme Kit includes all the parts plus full-color online instructions, and Fromel also offers to install it if you send in your pedal. It fits through-hole GE-7Bs only.
Why do some players say the GE-7B adds hiss?
Fromel Electronics, which sells a mod kit for the pedal, describes the stock GE-7B as having hiss, ice-pick highs, and general tone-suck. Their kit replaces the non-audio components while keeping the corner frequencies unchanged, so the EQ can still be used flat as a transparent boost.
