The Bulinski Effect Pedals ASD-1 is an analog spring reverb driver pedal. Rather than modeling a spring in a chip, it drives the springs of a real, external reverb tank: you connect a tank to the RCA jacks on the side of the pedal, and the ASD-1's internal circuitry drives those springs for an authentic spring reverb effect, bringing real spring reverb to a pedalboard. It sits in the wider family of reverb pedals, but works differently from most of them because the tank is a separate unit you supply.1
What it does
The ASD-1 is not a clone of a Fender reverb circuit. Pedal of the Day's reviewer noted that "the ASD series is not another Fender circuit clone," and that the controls "allow you to push the parameters well beyond what the classic unit" offers, opening up a wider range of sounds than the classic amplifiers the idea comes from.1
The reviewer described the result as "a wide range of drippy, oozing reverb that slinks and squirms through your eardrums with ease."1
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Spring Drive | Controls how hard the springs are driven, from a very light effect up to an overdriven spring effect1 |
| Wet Tone | Shapes the tone of the reverb signal1 |
| Wet | Sets the level of the reverb signal1 |
| Dry | Sets the level of the unaffected signal1 |
With the wet signal turned all the way down, or with the spring tank removed, the ASD-1 functions as a clean boost, which puts it in the same territory as dedicated boost pedals.1
