The Caline CP-44 Reflector Spring Reverb is a compact reverb pedal that aims at one specific sound: the spring reverb built into analog guitar amplifiers. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "similar to the spring reverb effect of the analog amplifiers" and says "the timbre is very natural."1 If you want the boing and drip of an amp's onboard spring tank without carrying an amp that has one, this is the kind of pedal made for that job.
What it does
The CP-44 is an analog circuit, which is unusual for a reverb pedal, since most modern reverbs are digital. Its stated purpose is to reproduce the character of an amplifier's spring reverb rather than the halls, plates and shimmer modes a digital pedal offers. Caline's own description is that the effect is "similar to the spring reverb effect of the analog amplifiers" with a "very natural" timbre.1
Power
The pedal runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 100mA.1 That current draw is worth noting: it is higher than many compact pedals, so a low-output daisy-chain output may not be enough on its own.
At 100mA, the CP-44 needs a power supply output that can supply that current. Check the ratings on your supply before adding it to a shared daisy chain.1
Where it sits in Caline's reverb range
Caline makes a number of reverb pedals beyond the CP-44, covering different territory1:
- Caline Mariana Modulated Reverb, a modulated reverb with seven modes
- Caline CP-512 Old School Reverb
- Caline CP-26 Snake Bite Cavernous Reverb
- Caline CP-98 Seahawk Reverb
- Caline G-008 Barn Owl Reverb
