The Caline CP-514 Santa Carla Boost is a boost pedal: a simple effect that raises the level of your signal without changing its basic character, the way an overdrive or distortion pedal does. Boost pedals like this are commonly used to push an amp or another drive pedal harder, or to lift a solo above the mix. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the CP-514 as an analog circuit1.

Power

The CP-514 draws 100 mA1. That is worth noting when planning a pedalboard power supply: a daisy chain or a low-current output on a power brick may not be enough on its own, so give the pedal an output that can supply at least that much.

Where it sits in Caline's range

Caline builds a number of boost and boost-related pedals, and the CP-514 is the maker's straightforward take on the effect. Elsewhere in the range, boost appears in combination with other circuits: the CP-99 Medusa and CP-43 Pegasus Overdrive are overdrive and boost designs, the CP-79 Wolfpack pairs an overdrive with a boost section, and the CP-97 Recluse Boost is a dedicated boost that also appears in Caline's dual pedals. For a plain boost with no drive circuit attached, the CP-514 is the pedal in that lineup that does only one job. If you want to compare it with other dedicated boosts, the boost pedal type page gathers the category.
