The Caveman Audio EX1 is an expansion module for a switching system: it adds footswitches to the Caveman Audio SC1, the company's MIDI foot controller. Where the SC1 alone handles preset selection and loop control, the EX1 extends the surface underfoot with three preset switches and six direct access switches, so a player can reach more presets and more individual switches without changing controllers1.
What it does
The EX1 is made for players who have outgrown the SC1's built-in switching. The three preset switches give faster access to presets, and the six direct access switches give individual, one-press control, the kind of arrangement players use for turning single loops or functions on and off mid-song. Caveman Audio describes it simply: "Expand your SC1 with 3 preset and 6 direct access switches."1
The EX1 expands the Caveman Audio SC1 switching system: the maker describes it as a way to "Expand your SC1 with 3 preset and 6 direct access switches," adding three preset switches and six direct access switches to the SC11.

Players comparing expansion options in the same family may also want to look at the Caveman Audio EX2 module, and the broader field of controllers lives on the Switching Pedals page.
