The Cicognani ECHOFET BABY is a compact modulated delay pedal built to recreate the sound of the Binson Echorec, the vintage Italian echo unit whose delay comes from a rotating metal drum rather than tape. Cicognani describes it as capturing "the sonic magic of the legendary Binson Echorec in a compact package," and the pedal is made by Cicognani Engineering. It is discontinued: as of 26 October 2026 the Godlyke product page states "This pedal has been discontinued by Cicognani Engineering."1

The ECHOFET BABY is no longer in production. The remaining unit is sold as a closeout with no returns, so there is no warranty path through the distributor on that sale.1

What it does

The ECHOFET BABY starts with what Cicognani calls a custom-designed, ultra-linear preamp section, intended to capture playing nuance while retaining the three-dimensional spatial quality of the original Echorec. Repeats run from 1 through infinite, and a Bass/Treble control adjusts them from dark to bright, which is how the pedal shapes the tonal character of the echoes.1

The controls break down like this:

ControlWhat it does
Magic of AgeAdds modulation to the delay repeats, replicating the unequal wear of moving mechanical parts and the tolerance and calibration variations of vintage Binson units1
Bass/TrebleShapes the repeats from dark to bright1
RepeatsRuns from 1 through infinite1
Bypass footswitchSwitches the effect and doubles as a feedback reset to bring runaway repeats back under control1

The signature control is the Magic of Age knob. Cicognani explains that it "adds modulation to the Delay repeats to replicate the unequal wear of moving mechanical parts," along with the component tolerance and calibration variations of vintage Binson units. In other words, it dials in the imperfect, worn character of an old drum echo instead of a perfectly uniform repeat.1

The Bypass footswitch does double duty. Along with switching the effect, it "functions as a 'feedback reset' to bring the repeats back under control," which matters when the pedal is pushed into runaway repeat territory.1

For players running more than one amp, the pedal has separate outputs that allow routing of the wet and dry signals to individual amps or channels, so the echoes can come through one rig while the dry guitar goes to another.1

The Binson Echorec behind it

Cicognani's own range takes the same direction further, with the valve-based POMPEII PE603 echo unit and the four-head stereo LE PRISM.

Questions

Is the Cicognani ECHOFET BABY discontinued?

Yes. Cicognani Engineering has discontinued the ECHOFET BABY. As of 26 October 2026, Godlyke Distributing, the maker's product page, lists it as a closeout item sold with no returns, with only one unit left in stock. Anyone looking for a current Cicognani delay has to look at the company's other pedals instead.

What does the Magic of Age control do?

The Magic of Age control adds modulation to the delay repeats. Cicognani designed it to replicate the unequal wear of moving mechanical parts, combined with the component tolerance and calibration variations found in vintage Binson units. In practice it lets you dial in the imperfect, worn character of an old Echorec rather than a perfectly clean repeat.

What does the Bypass footswitch do on the ECHOFET BABY?

Besides turning the effect on and off, the Bypass footswitch doubles as a feedback reset. If the repeats build up and start running away, pressing it brings the repeats back under control. That makes it practical to push the pedal into self-oscillation territory and recover from it mid-song.

Can I send wet and dry signals to separate amps?

Yes. The ECHOFET BABY has separate outputs that allow routing of the wet and dry signals to individual amps or channels. That means you can keep your clean tone on one amp while the echoes come through another, a stereo or dual-amp setup that the original studio echo units were often used with.

What is the Binson Echorec?

The Binson Echorec is a vintage delay effect unit that creates its delay using a rotating metal drum rather than tape. Jack Antonoff described it to MusicRadar that way in 2025. The original was limited to 300ms of delay time, and its multi-head magnetic drum echo has inspired a number of pedal reproductions.
