The CKK Lunar OD Special is an analog overdrive pedal from CKK Electronic, a maker whose other drives include the Scream Honey Overdrive, the SH-1N Scream Honey Gold Edition and the SHXC Super Overdrive. Like any overdrive, it pushes the front end of an amp for added grit and sustain, and it sits between the cleaner boost pedals and the heavier distortion and fuzz pedals on a board.1
What it does
CKK's stated aim with the Lunar Drive is touch response. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as focusing "on having the responsive characteristics of a tube amplifier, and reacting to the dynamics of your playing", meaning how hard or soft you pick changes how much drive you hear, in the way a pushed tube amp does.1
The maker also describes the pedal as one that "brings vintage tube tones to your electric guitar", placing it on the warmer, amp-like side of the overdrive family rather than the sharper, more compressed end.1
Controls
The Lunar OD Special keeps its control set simple, with bass and treble tone shaping on top of the usual drive and level functions1:
- Bass and treble: RockBoard's PedalPedia says these controls "allow you to accurately adjust the Lunar Drive to your preference", so the low and high ends of the driven tone can be set independently rather than with a single tone knob.1
Power
The pedal runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 10 mA, which is light enough for almost any pedalboard power supply.1
