The CKK SH-1N Scream Honey Gold Edition is a limited-edition version of the Scream Honey SH-1N, a transparent, low-gain overdrive from CKK Electronics. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described it as "a pristine, high-headroom, low-gain, transparent overdrive", one that aims for minimal coloring of the guitar's own tone rather than adding gain of its own1. It sits in the broader family of overdrive pedals, but its intent is the opposite of a mid-heavy drive: the maker's product page positions the SH-1N especially for Marshall players who have never found an overdrive that satisfies them2.
What it does and how it is controlled
The pedal carries four knobs and two toggle switches. The switches are the heart of its voicing: with both switches down, in the off position, the SH-1N gives what RockBoard's PedalPedia calls a traditional and classic overdrive tone2. The Hollow and Bold toggles then shape it from there3.
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| Level | Output volume |
| Tone | Treble shaping |
| Drive | Amount of overdrive |
| Hollow switch | Upper mids cut |
| Bold switch | High and low frequency boost |
RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the SH-1N as the result of ten years of research into overdrive and amp tone combinations, calling it CKK's first high-end overdrive pedal2. It is built with hand tested and selected vintage components that RockBoard's PedalPedia says have been discontinued for several decades, collected over many years, and the circuit is completely hand soldered2.
How it sounds, according to reviewers
Karlsson's verdict is the most detailed published account. On what the pedal does well, he wrote:
"What the Scream Honey does really well is those gorgeous uncoloured amp-like high headroom tones."
He also noted that some of his readers use the SH-1N as a sort of harmonic booster1. In a later Klon-style roundup, he placed it among Klon-adjacent designs but with a caveat: "this one is very low gain, incredibly subtle even at full whack - a somewhat unusual take on the Klon"3. Players wanting more gain from the same designer's stable can look at the CKK SHXC Super Overdrive or the original CKK Scream Honey Overdrive.
Availability and price
The Gold Edition was one of two special editions, alongside a Dark Gold Edition, both priced at circa $300 at launch1. Karlsson reviewed his own unit, number 39 of 59, in March 2022, by which point both editions had sold out; as he put it, "since all are sold out now there must have been an audience for those too"1. A later Guitar Pedal X listing also carried the $300 figure3. Because the run was small and the vintage components hand selected, the Gold Edition turns up only secondhand.
The Gold and Dark Gold Editions sold out in 2022. The standard Scream Honey SH-1N is the version CKK's range centers on.

Questions
Is the CKK Scream Honey Gold Edition a Klon clone?
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described it as a somewhat unusual take on the Klon, but not a straight copy: he found it very low gain and incredibly subtle even at full whack, and noted that some readers use it as a sort of harmonic booster. It is better understood as a transparent, amp-like low-gain overdrive with its own Hollow and Bold voicing switches.
How many Scream Honey Gold Editions were made?
The Gold Edition was a limited run of 59 units. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer owned unit #39 of 59, and both the Gold and Dark Gold special editions sold out.
How much did the CKK Scream Honey Gold Edition cost?
Both special editions, the Gold and the Dark Gold, were priced at circa $300 at launch in March 2022, and Guitar Pedal X's later Klon-style roundup also listed it at $300.
Is the CKK Scream Honey Gold Edition still available?
No. Guitar Pedal X reported in March 2022 that the Gold and Dark Gold Editions were all sold out. The standard Scream Honey SH-1N remains the pedal to look for from CKK's range.
