The Cog Effects T-65 is an analog octave pedal for guitar and bass, an upgraded and updated version of the original T-65 design, joining a range that also includes the T-47 and T-7012. The headline change over the old design is a built-in effects loop, which lets you mix in other effects with your octave and clean signals, plus a Mode footswitch that selects whether the pedal's bypassed signal is your clean signal or your effects loop signal2. It is available now from Cog Effects, with a UK RRP of £1702.
What it does
Like the rest of Cog's octave range, the T-65 produces an octave-up and octave-down signal alongside your clean tone, with a level control for each so you can set the blend. The upgrade over the original design is the parallel effects loop: Cog Effects describes it as a way to "mix in any effects with your octave and clean signals to create new sounds and textures"1. In practice that means you can patch, say, a fuzz or filter pedal into the loop and have it sit under the octaves rather than in front of the whole pedal.
The T-65 "retains the control set of the original, with level controls for clean signal, octave down, octave up, and the parallel effects loop"1, so players who knew the earlier version will find the same layout, with the loop blend added.
The Mode footswitch
The other addition is a second footswitch. Cog Effects says "the addition of the Mode footswitch allows you to select your sound when the T-65 is bypassed as either your clean signal or your effects loop signal"1. That gives you two bypassed sounds to switch between, rather than a single fixed clean tone.
Where it came from
Cog Effects expanded its octave range with the new T-47 and T-70 alongside the upgraded and updated T-6512. gearnews.com described the T-65 as "basically an 'upgraded' version of the old design that allows you to blend in other effects via the built-in" loop2. All three pedals are available now from Cog Effects3.
The T-65 was launched in August 2016, and the price and availability given here date from that launch. All three pedals were reported as "available now from Cog Effects" at the time3.
