The Coriolis Effects Transmit 2.1 is a broadcast-console-style preamp pedal, built as a take on a modern circuit based on the broadcast consoles of the 1960s. Designer Devin took several different Hudson Electronics Broadcast Console-style preamps as his inspiration and combined them in a compact 125B enclosure1.
Release and availability
The Transmit 2.1 followed an earlier Coriolis model released in March 2024, the original Transmit 2, which came in a larger landscape 1590BB enclosure. The 2.1 shrinks that circuit into the compact 125B format1.
The compact edition launched as a limited batch in four colourways, Mint, Black, Red and Gold, with just 2 or 3 available in each color. Guitar Pedal X reported that all those editions sold out in about 30 seconds1.
The Transmit 2.1 was a limited batch release and sold out quickly at launch, so availability is restricted to what Coriolis Effects makes next.
Circuit and transformer
At its core, the circuit contains a Sziklai Pair of transistors, two complementary transistors working together, with a transformer-coupled output. The specific transistors are a lower gain PNP TI 2N404 germanium transistor and a PNP Raytheon 2N327A silicon transistor, paired in the Sziklai arrangement with a higher gain NPN BC549C silicon transistor1.
The black block at the base of the circuit is a Triad Magnetics transformer. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson wrote that it "gives the pedal more potency and more versatility"1.
Controls and power
The pedal's controls are1:
- Gain
- Level Low
- Level High
- Volts: 18V [x2], 9V, 27V [x3]
- Low Frequency Cut
- Low Cut Range Toggle: Extend
The Volts control works with the internal power section: a CMOS charge pump takes the 9V input and doubles and triples the voltage up to 18 and 27 volts for more volume on tap1. Two footswitches handle channel and bypass duties: a High/Low Channel Footswitch and a Bypass Footswitch1.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X's review was favourable on how the circuit responds to playing. Stefan Karlsson wrote: "The dynamics on this circuit are just exceptional and you have so much extended range to operate within"1.
Questions
What is a Hudson Electronics Broadcast Console-style preamp?
It is a preamp circuit that takes its inspiration from the broadcast consoles of the 1960s. The Transmit 2.1 is described by Guitar Pedal X as a take on a modern circuit based on those consoles, and designer Devin took several different Hudson Electronics Broadcast Console-style preamps as his inspiration, combining them in a compact 125B enclosure.
What is the difference between the original Transmit 2 and the Transmit 2.1?
The original Transmit 2 was released in March 2024 in a larger landscape 1590BB enclosure. The Transmit 2.1 is the current compact edition, fitting the same broadcast-console-style circuit into a smaller 125B enclosure. Guitar Pedal X described the 2.1 as a smart compact edition of the earlier pedal.
What does the transformer do in the Transmit 2.1?
The pedal carries a Triad Magnetics transformer in the circuit, with a transformer-coupled output. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described the transformer as giving the pedal more potency and more versatility, and it sits at the base of the pedal's circuit alongside the Sziklai transistor pair.
What transistors are in the Transmit 2.1?
The circuit uses a lower gain PNP TI 2N404 germanium transistor and a PNP Raytheon 2N327A silicon transistor, paired in a Sziklai Pair arrangement with a higher gain NPN BC549C silicon transistor. A Sziklai Pair is two complementary transistors working together as a single gain stage.
What does the High/Low channel footswitch do?
The Transmit 2.1 has two footswitches: a High/Low Channel Footswitch and a Bypass Footswitch. The High/Low switch moves between the pedal's two channels, each with its own level control, so a player can set up a low-gain and a higher-gain voice and step between them during play.
