The Daredevil Atomic Cocked is a fixed wah pedal from Daredevil Pedals. Instead of a rocking treadle like a conventional wah pedal, it holds a single wah filter position, set by one knob. Daredevil describes it as a way to "Get all the great cocked wah sounds without the wah pedal," producing what the maker calls a sweet, squawky tone1. A cocked wah sound is the midrange-heavy tone a wah makes when its treadle is left partway down, familiar from countless lead and rhythm parts.
Daredevil is explicit about what it is not: "NOT AN AUTO-WAH! :)"1. An auto-wah opens and closes on its own in response to picking dynamics; the Atomic Cocked does not move at all. It is a filter parked where you set it, which puts it closer in spirit to the fixed filter pedals grouped under filter pedals than to a moving wah.
Controls and power
The front panel carries one control. Daredevil describes it as "a smooth sweeping wah with a single knob to set your pitch," so turning the knob moves the filter through the wah range until you find the spot that suits the part1. There is no treadle, no range switch and no envelope control to set.
Power comes from a 9V DC supply with negative ground, the standard center-negative arrangement used by most pedalboard supplies. Daredevil suggests a supply with a minimum 200mA rating, which is worth noting when planning a daisy chain, since many shared supplies budget far less per output1. The pedal has true bypass switching, so when it is off, the guitar signal passes through without the filter in the path1.
Versions
Daredevil has sold the Atomic Cocked with different artwork over the years. The maker's page currently shows a demo of the original artwork design version and notes that it is the "Same circuit as always," meaning the artwork change does not affect the sound or the circuit inside1.
