The Daredevil Effects L.S.D. (Logan Square Destroyer) is a fuzz pedal from the Chicago maker, one of builder Johnny Wator's newer hand-wired stompboxes. Premier Guitar describes it as inspired by the classic Mosrite Fuzzrite, but with "more modern, wall-of-sound authority"1.
Controls and construction
As on many '60s-style fuzzes, the L.S.D.'s sole controls are level and gain, so it is a set-and-forget pedal that players shape mostly from the guitar. Under the hood, Premier Guitar found a small 1½" circuit board with relatively few components, and the reviewer called it "a hand-wired piece of this quality"1.
How it sounds
Premier Guitar's reviewer found the pedal very responsive to guitar volume adjustments: a Stratocaster and a Jaguar delivered mellow overdrive when rolled back, spanning a wide gain spectrum without considerable loss of output. At full tilt, the reviewer wrote, "The simplest lines roar with volcanic sustain, hanging on the precipice of feedback," which the review called perfect for monstrous, nodding stone1.
