The Darkglass Super Symmetry is a compressor pedal for bass, introduced as "the newest member of the Darkglass family" when Bass Musician Magazine reviewed it in 20151. Darkglass now lists it as "Our discontinued Super Symmetry · 115 GeV Compressor" on its product page, so it is no longer in production2.
What it does
As a compressor, the pedal evens out the peaks and valleys of a bass signal. Bass Musician Magazine, in a 2020 buying guide, described it as a pedal that "can emulate studio-grade compressors without negatively affecting tone at all"3. The same guide noted that it "comes with an inherent envelope effect which can help you emulate the old school compressor sound"3.
Controls
The Super Symmetry keeps its control set simple, with three knobs1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| BLEND | Mixes the compressed and clean signals. Darkglass calls it ideal for fast compression adjustment: to reduce compression you can dial back the blend without having to readjust your Input and Output levels for unity gain1 |
| COMPRESSION | Sets the amount of compression, described as Peak Reduction1 |
| INPUT | Adjusts the gain on the compressor. It also works as a threshold control, setting the level over which the compressor starts reducing gain; higher input settings result in higher levels of compression1 |
The blend control is the pedal's defining feature for players. Parallel compression, mixing a squashed signal with an untouched one, lets you keep the attack and low-end character of the clean signal while the compressed signal fills in the sustain, and the Super Symmetry puts that balance on a single knob1.
