The Dr. No Effects SkullFuzz Original is a fuzz pedal built into a life-size human skull. The maker describes it as the "World famous Fuzz extreme in a life size human skull," with the circuit housed in the skull as a brain and two freshly torn out human eyes serving as the Fuzz and Volume knobs1. It is a silicon fuzz, and Dr. No describes its sound as extreme heavy hell noise, adding "It can't get more heavy than this"1.

Controls and the side switch

The SkullFuzz keeps its control layout to three things, all built into the skull itself1:

  • Fuzz knob: one of the two human eyes set into the skull1
  • Volume knob: the second human eye1
  • Side switch: a small switch on the side of the skull that "creates a short circuit in the brain for a variation in Fuzz"1

A later maker description of the same side-mounted mini toggle refers to it as giving two fuzz type presets2, so in practice the switch selects between two fuzz voicings rather than working as a second footswitch.

Power

The pedal runs on 9V and draws 100mA, with a 2.1mm jack type that is negative tip, positive sleeve1. That current draw is high for a single fuzz, so a supply output rated for at least 100mA is worth having.

Dr. No states the Original SkullFuzz has been built since 2013 and is available through its own site2.

Handmade, numbered, and one of a family

Dr. No Effects calls the SkullFuzz Original a handmade guitar pedal, sold in limited runs of numbered and personalised units, each with a custom handmade paper box1. It sits at the head of a family of skull-based builds from the same maker, including the Blood Skull SkullFuzz, the NecroFuzzIcon, and the 11:11, all within the broader field of fuzz pedals.

Questions

What power supply does the Dr. No SkullFuzz Original need?

The SkullFuzz Original runs on 9V and draws 100mA, with a 2.1mm connector that is negative tip, positive sleeve. Because of the 100mA current draw, a standard low-current daisy chain supply may not be enough, so a dedicated 9V output rated for at least 100mA is the safe choice.

What does the side switch on the SkullFuzz do?

The small switch on the side of the skull creates a short circuit in the brain, which the maker describes as giving a variation in the fuzz. A later maker description of the same side switch refers to two fuzz type presets, so the switch changes the fuzz voicing rather than acting as a second footswitch.

Is the SkullFuzz Original a silicon or germanium fuzz?

The SkullFuzz Original is a silicon fuzz. Dr. No Effects lists the type as Silicon Fuzz on the product page, which distinguishes it from germanium-based fuzz designs in the maker's own range, such as the Ford Falcon Fuzz.

Is the Dr. No SkullFuzz Original handmade?

Yes. Dr. No Effects describes the SkullFuzz Original as a handmade guitar pedal, built in limited runs of numbered and personalised units that come with a custom handmade paper box. The maker states it has been building the Original SkullFuzz since 2013.

How much does the SkullFuzz Original cost?

The maker's webshop listed the SkullFuzz Original at €472.00 as of August 2026.
