The NecroFuzzIcon is a fuzz pedal from Dr. No Effects, built into an enclosure shaped like a book. It emerged in 2019 as the first part of the maker's SORCIÈRE trilogy, and Dr. No describes it as "a lethal FUZZ, shaped like a book, inspired" by the NECRONOMICON, or Book of the Dead12. The circuit is a three silicon transistor fuzz with two knobs, built with old and NOS (new old stock) components, and every unit is handmade in small numbered series3.
For a player, it is a vintage-style fuzz in the tradition of the classic transistor boxes: Dr. No says it is "similar and inspired on the Fuzzes touched and played by the Gods of rock that sold their soul to the Devil," and calls it "the absolute holy grail of analog vintage fuzz devices"3. The book format is the whole point of the design: the pedal is a real Bible-sized object that sits on a board or shelf like an occult tome.
What it is and what it does
The NecroFuzzIcon is a vintage style fuzz: it pushes the guitar signal through three silicon transistors to produce the saturated, compressed tone associated with the classic fuzz boxes of the late 1960s. Dr. No Effects builds it "fully with old and NOS essential components to create the true Fuzz tones," which means the transistors and other parts are period or new old stock rather than modern reproductions3.
The pedal is part of Dr. No's project called SORCIÈRE, a trilogy of effects with an occult theme4. The name and the book enclosure both reference the NECRONOMICON, the fictional Book of the Dead, and the controls carry the theme through with names taken from demonology and Norse myth.
Controls
| Control | Named for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Fenrir | Fenrir, son of Loki, the God of Deception | Fuzz amount3 |
| Voval (or Vual) | A mighty duke from Hell | Volume1 |
Two knobs is the whole control set: the Fuzz, represented by Fenrir, and Volume, represented by Voval. The NecroFuzzIcon is a 3 transistor Fuzz with two knobs. The extra fuzz type switch is a feature of the Necrofuzzicon II rather than the original book version315.
Power and practicalities
The NecroFuzzIcon runs on an external power supply only; there is no battery option. It takes 9V through a 2.1mm jack with negative tip and positive sleeve, which Dr. No notes is the regular guitar effects connection, and draws 30/50mA. The maker prefers an isolated power supply3.
No battery compartment means this pedal needs a spot on a powered pedalboard. The 30/50mA draw is modest, but Dr. No Effects recommends an isolated supply rather than a daisy chain.
History, series and the NecroFuzzIcon II
The NecroFuzzIcon appeared in 2019 as the first part of the SORCIÈRE trilogy1. The first handmade series of 50 units was released in February 2021, exclusively through the maker's own webshop4. Production has continued in small numbered runs, with each series announced and built to order rather than held as stock5.
Dr. No Effects states that "every Dr. No Effect is build by hand, no mass hand production stock is made in advance," with pedals released in small series of 50 each time5. The book version's series history as listed by the maker:
| Series | Units | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Series (February 2021) | 01/50 | Sold out34 |
| 2nd Series | 50/75 | Sold out5 |
| 3rd Series | 76/88 | Sold out5 |
| Final series of the Book version | 88 to 100 of 100 | Available early 20245 |
As of July 2026 the maker's product page listed the book version at € 352.003.
The NecroFuzzIcon II
The NecroFuzzIcon II is the same fuzz circuit moved into a conventional aluminum casted box, LxBxH 11.9 x 9.4 x 3.4 cm, with one addition: a two way mini toggle switch that generates a two option fuzz, smooth and gritty5. The Fenrir and Voval knobs carry over unchanged5.
Both the book version and the II "have a build in noise filter circuit to limit noise," which addresses the hiss that high gain fuzz circuits can produce5. The II shares the same power spec: 9V, 2.1mm jack, negative tip positive sleeve, 30/50mA, power supply only5. It was listed at € 268.00, with its 3rd series (01/50) described as limited available5.
The book version is the collectible format, built in numbered series of 50 with a final run closing at 100 total. The II is the practical format: smaller, cheaper, and with the extra fuzz type switch, but it appears in equally limited handmade runs.

Questions
Does the Dr. No NecroFuzzIcon take a battery?
No. The NecroFuzzIcon runs on a power supply only: 9V through a 2.1mm jack with negative tip and positive sleeve, the regular guitar effects connection. Current draw is 30/50mA and Dr. No Effects prefers an isolated power supply. There is no battery option.
Is the NecroFuzzIcon analog?
Yes. Dr. No Effects describes it as an analog vintage fuzz device, built with three silicon transistors and old and NOS (new old stock) essential components. There is no digital processing in the circuit.
How many NecroFuzzIcon pedals were made in the first series?
The first handmade series of the book version was 50 units, released in February 2021 exclusively through the maker's own webshop, and it sold out. Later book series ran to 100 units in total, with the final series available in early 2024.
What does the Fenrir knob do?
Fenrir is the Fuzz control. Dr. No Effects names it after Fenrir, son of Loki, the God of Deception. The other knob, Voval (or Vual), named for a mighty duke from Hell, is the Volume control.
How big is the NecroFuzzIcon?
The book version measures about 13 x 19 x 8 cm, which Dr. No Effects describes as a real Bible-sized book. The NecroFuzzIcon II comes in a much smaller aluminium casted box, 11.9 x 9.4 x 3.4 cm.
Does the Dr. No Effects Necrofuzzicon II take a battery?
No. Like the original book version, the NecroFuzzIcon II is power supply only: 9V through a 2.1mm jack with negative tip and positive sleeve, with a 30/50mA current draw. There is no battery compartment.
