The Drunk Beaver Huliaipole Anarchy Fuzz is a limited-run fuzz pedal from the Ukrainian maker Drunk Beaver. It is built around a pairing of silicon and germanium transistors, with the gain stage biased to suit the germanium component1.
Circuit and sound
The pedal keeps the Jordan Boss Tone as its starting point but rebuilds the gain stage around the germanium 1T403. Its clipping arrangement uses a combination of Si KD512A diodes and 1T403 transistors on each side, which Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson describes as yielding a softer clipping with significantly higher headroom1.
Karlsson characterizes the overall result as "delivering a highly adaptable, chaotic yet ultimately - a totally controllable dirt experience"1.
Controls
Vitalii has introduced a dedicated Texture control to precisely dial in the biasing and voicing of the 1T403 transistor1. Beyond the fuzz itself, a powerful active two-band EQ is placed post-fuzz, with expansive cut/boost capabilities and output level recovery1.
Naming and availability
Huliaipole is the town where Ukrainian anarchist Nestor Makhno was born, continuing Drunk Beaver's practice of naming pedals after Ukrainian places1. The pedal was available for $150 / €150 / 549 pln and equivalent on the Drunk Beaver Rocks Webstore at launch1.
This was another rapid prototyping project without an official demo, and the run was limited to 30 units1.
The Huliaipole sits among Drunk Beaver's other limited drops, such as the Bashtanka Muff, the Voznesensk Dino Drive and the Kupiansk Sub Fuzz, and alongside earlier textured takes on classic circuits like the Secret Sauce and Taras Bulba V2.
