The Dunlop Authentic Hendrix '69 Psych Series Octavio Fuzz (JHW2) is an octave fuzz pedal in Dunlop's line of Jimi Hendrix signature pedals, built in a compact MXR mini housing1.
What it does
The pedal is an update of a classic effect. Guitar World described it as "updated with a switch to toggle between the iconic octave-up sound that Jimi Hendrix made f[amous]" and what the magazine called "super snarling silicon saturation"1. In practice, that switch is the pedal's main control: one position gives the octave-up fuzz voice, the other a straight silicon fuzz without the octave. Beyond that switch and the footswitch, the mini housing keeps the layout simple, with a status LED showing when the effect is engaged and true bypass taking it out of the chain when it is off1.
On the board
The MXR mini housing is the same compact format Dunlop uses across its Hendrix mini line, which also includes the Dunlop Authentic Hendrix '69 Psych Series Fuzz Face Distortion (JHW1) and the Dunlop Authentic Hendrix '69 Psych Series Band Of Gypsys Fuzz (JHW4)1. Players comparing octave fuzz options from the same maker may also look at the Dunlop Octavio or the Dunlop Siete Santos Octavio Fuzz.
The pedal runs on 9-volt power. Guitar World's report on the series mentions a 9-volt power input as one of the modern features of the mini housing, alongside the status LED and true-bypass switching1.
Guitar Pedal X listed the pedal, under the name "Dunlop JHW2 Jimi Hendrix '69 Psych Series Octavio Octave Fuzz Mini", in its 2022 selection of mini fuzz pedals, with a price of $1302.
