The Dwarfcraft Devices Super Wizard is a pitch shifter and echo pedal, announced in March 2017 as picking up where the company's Wizard of Pitch left off1. It pairs the same pitch shifting engine as the earlier pedal with a new Bend footswitch and an Insert jack for patching other effects into its own loop12. Dwarfcraft priced it at $300, with the pedal ready to ship from April 15, 20171.
What it does
At its core the Super Wizard is two effects in one box: a pitch shifter and an echo. Pedal of the Day put it plainly in its 2017 review: "the Super Wizard is almost indescribable, an effect that you must truly experience in person to fully appreciate"2. The Pitch control controls the pitch2, and the Insert jack lets you add other effects into the Super Wizard's effects loop, so a player can run, say, a filter or a fuzz between the shifting and echo stages instead of around the whole pedal2.
The Bend footswitch is the headline addition over the Wizard of Pitch. Premier Guitar's announcement described it as engaging "a doppler type effect," with the Bender toggle from the earlier pedal still available1. On the Wizard of Pitch, that toggle's effect works by having the pitch fall in conjunction with the input signal's decay, restarting at the end of its shifting range4.
Super Wizard and Wizard of Pitch
The two pedals are directly related. The Wizard of Pitch began as a cut-down version of Dwarfcraft's Pitchgrinder, reduced to a single pitch shifter with a mix control5. The Super Wizard uses the same shifting engine: in a demo video for Delicious Audio, the Knobs channel described it as "sample based pitch shifting identical to the one found in their Wizard of Pitch"3.
| Wizard of Pitch | Super Wizard | |
|---|---|---|
| Pitch engine | Single shifter, cut down from the Pitchgrinder5 | Sample based, identical to the Wizard of Pitch3 |
| Bend | Bender toggle4 | Bend footswitch plus Bender toggle1 |
| Effects loop | Not part of the design as described2 | Insert jack for adding effects into the loop2 |
RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the Wizard of Pitch as an analog circuit5. The Super Wizard's shifting is described as sample based3, so the two should not be assumed to share a circuit type.

Questions
What is the difference between the Super Wizard and the Wizard of Pitch?
The Super Wizard picks up where the Wizard of Pitch left off. Both share the same sample based pitch shifting, but the Super Wizard adds a footswitch for the Bend control that engages a doppler type effect, alongside the Bender toggle that was already on the Wizard of Pitch. It also adds an Insert jack that lets you place other effects inside the Super Wizard's effects loop.
Is the Dwarfcraft Super Wizard analog or digital?
The Super Wizard's pitch shifting is sample based. In a demo for Delicious Audio, the Knobs channel described it as sample based pitch shifting identical to the one found in Dwarfcraft's Wizard of Pitch, which RockBoard's PedalPedia lists as an analog circuit. The Super Wizard is best described by how its shifting works: on samples rather than as a straight analog pitch circuit.
What does the Insert jack do on the Super Wizard?
The Insert jack lets you add other effects into the Super Wizard's effects loop, so you can place another pedal between the pitch shifting and echo stages rather than before or after the whole pedal.
What does the Bender toggle do?
The Bender toggle engages a doppler type effect in which the pitch falls in conjunction with the input signal's decay, restarting at the end of its shifting range. On the Super Wizard, a dedicated Bend footswitch engages the same kind of effect, and the Bender toggle remains available as well.
