EarthQuaker Devices

EarthQuaker Devices’ Data Corrupter puts your guitar signal through a meat grinder, mangling it beyond all recognition—and in this context, that’s a good thing! A modulated monophonic PLL circuit turns your tone into a three-voice synth with a heaping helping of thick fuzz, and with six dials, two rotary selectors, and two toggle switches you get all the tone sculpting tools you’ll ever need. If you really want your guitar to stop sounding like an actual guitar, plug it into the Data Corrupter and watch the sonic sparks fly.

Brand: Earthquaker Devices

Color: Standard

Features:

  • Takes your input signal and brutally amplifies it into a crushing square wave fuzz tone
  • That tone is then multiplied, divided and modulated to create a wild, yet repeatable, three-voice guitar synthesizer
  • Takes its inspiration from the Electrax Synthax and the “Basic Frequency Synthesizer” by Ray Marston
  • The Data Corrupter provides excellent tracking and long sustain
  • More expressive and accurate than pretty much any other PLL based effect pedal around
  • Made with care by human hands in Akron, Ohio

Details: The data Corrupter is a monophonic analog harmonizing PLL with modulation. It takes your input signal and brutally amplifies it into a crushing square wave fuzz tone that is then multiplied, divided and modulated to create a wild, yet repeatable, three-voice guitar synthesizer.

While I’m a big EarthQuaker Devices fan, Data Corrupter is not the most likable pedal for me. It yields some interesting sounds, but all of which are irksome. I think you need a lot of patience and practice to appreciate this one.
