The Electro-Harmonix Pico Rerun is a digital delay pedal that models the sound of vintage tape echo in the company's smallest enclosure format, the Pico chassis. Electro-Harmonix pitches it as a "vintage tape-style delay smaller than a cassette player," built on the tape delay algorithm from the Canyon Delay & Looper and packing preamp saturation, degraded-tape warble and modern features like tap tempo into a box measuring 3.65 x 2.0 x 2.0 inches1.

It was released in 2023 as part of the Pico series, and it carries a list price of $137.901. Delicious Audio describes it as a tape-style echo in mini format that "captures the warmth, preamp saturation, and warbling tape degradation of vintage tape delays"2.

What it does to your sound

Tape delay is loved for its warmth and charming imperfections compared to pristine digital delays, and the Rerun is built around reproducing exactly those imperfections. The SAT knob adds tape saturation and distortion to only the wet signal, so your dry tone stays untouched while the repeats get crunchier. The FLUTTER control brings in the pitch wobble of a worn tape transport, with three depths ranging from slight chorusing to what Electro-Harmonix calls "seasick thickness"1.

The FDBK knob sets the repeat level from 1 to infinite, so at maximum settings the pedal will run away into self-oscillation12. Delicious Audio also notes a selectable Tails bypass, which lets echoes continue ringing out after you switch the pedal off2.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
DELAY knobAdjusts delay time from 8ms to 3s1
BLEND knobSets the wet/dry blend, from 100% dry to 100% wet1
FDBK knobSets repeat level from 1 to infinite, for runaway oscillation1
SAT knobAdds tape saturation and distortion to the wet signal only; dry signal unaffected1
FLUTTER buttonPress to set flutter depth: green is low, orange is medium, red is high1
FootswitchEngages or bypasses the effect; LED color shows the selected flutter depth, and the LED blinks at the latest tap reading when delay time is set by tap tempo1

The single footswitch does more than switch the effect. Press and release it at least two times and it sets tap tempo, with the LED blinking to confirm your reading. Press and hold it and the pedal engages infinite repeats in an instant, a quick route to those runaway self-oscillation sounds12.

Power and connections

The Rerun runs from a 9V power jack, drawing 100mA at 9.0VDC, and a 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter is included in the box1. Signal connections are simple: one INPUT jack and one OUTPUT jack1.

The Pico Rerun is buffered bypass, not true bypass1. Delicious Audio reports the Tails bypass behavior is selectable, letting echoes continue after the pedal is bypassed2.

Origins: the Canyon tape delay algorithm

The Rerun is not the only Pico delay in the range: the Pico Canyon Echo is a separate mini digital echo also derived from the Canyon2. Where the Canyon offers a full multi-mode delay and looper, the Rerun distills just the tape delay voice into the smallest box Electro-Harmonix makes.

What reviewers said

Premier Guitar reviewed the pedal in August 2024 and was positive about how it nails the tape character, writing that it "hangs with more expensive digital tape echoes at a $137 price tag that's easy to stomach"3. The reviewer found the saturation control "lends welcome drive and haze," and noted that at the most intense flutter setting, long repeats take on "a woozy sense of drift"3. At the fastest flutter rates, the reviewer found the flutter function generates chorus and flange effects, comparing it against an Echoplex3.

Delicious Audio added the Pico Rerun to its Best Tape Echo Pedals guide when covering the pedal2.

Questions

Is the Pico Rerun analog or digital?

It is digital. The Pico Rerun is an algorithm-based tape delay emulation, built on the tape delay algorithm from the Electro-Harmonix Canyon Delay & Looper. It models the warmth, preamp saturation and warble of vintage tape echo rather than using an actual tape path.

Is the Electro-Harmonix Pico Rerun true bypass?

No. Electro-Harmonix lists the Pico Rerun as buffered bypass. Delicious Audio also reports a selectable Tails bypass mode, which lets echoes continue ringing out after you switch the pedal into bypass.

How much current does the Pico Rerun draw?

Electro-Harmonix specifies a current draw of 100mA at 9.0VDC. The pedal runs from a 9V power jack, and a 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter is included in the box.

Does the Pico Rerun have tap tempo?

Yes. Press and release the footswitch at least two times to set the tempo, and the LED blinks to confirm your tap. The same footswitch does double duty: press and hold it to engage infinite repeats instantly.

What is the maximum delay time on the Pico Rerun?

The DELAY knob adjusts delay time from 8ms to 3s, so the maximum is 3 seconds. That range covers everything from tight slapback to long, spaced-out ambient repeats.

Does the Pico Rerun come with a power supply?

Yes. A 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter is included, and you attach its output plug to the pedal's 9V power jack. The pedal draws 100mA at 9.0VDC.
