The Ernie Ball VPJR 25K is a compact volume pedal made by Ernie Ball, designed for players running active signals in their rig. Ernie Ball describes it as "perfectly voiced for active signals," which suits setups where the pedal sits after a buffered or active device rather than straight after passive pickups1.
It carries the same feature set as the original Ernie Ball volume pedal in a smaller body: Ernie Ball says it "provides all the same great features as our original volume pedal while reducing your footprint by 22%"1. That makes it a fit for crowded pedalboards where a full-size volume pedal will not fit.
What it does
A volume pedal sits in your signal chain and lets you raise and lower your level with your foot, for swells, fading in effects, or trimming overall loudness between songs. The VPJR 25K is the low-impedance, 25K version of Ernie Ball's compact VP Junior format, intended for active signals rather than the passive, high-impedance signal straight out of a guitar. Ernie Ball positions it as "perfectly voiced for active signals"1.
The pedal keeps the controls of the original Ernie Ball volume pedal in a body that reduces the footprint by 22%, so the trade-off against the full-size pedal is board space rather than function1. Ernie Ball also says the housing is "aircraft grade aluminum" and "virtually indestructible," a claim aimed at players who travel with their boards1.
For comparison, the high-impedance counterpart in the same compact format is the Ernie Ball VP Jr 250K, and the full-size passive version is the Ernie Ball 250k Mono Volume Pedal.
