The F-Pedals Echobandit is a delay pedal in a small footprint that emulates the sound of a tape echo. Its tape emulation is inspired by the Binson Echorec, the Italian echo unit whose sound is associated with David Gilmour's playing. F-Pedals says that with the Echobandit you can dial in "warm, Gilmour-esque washes as well as fat slapback sounds," with repeats that get darker and darker like those of a tape delay1.
Like other delays covered on the Delay Pedals page, it repeats what you play, but its character comes from the tape emulation: repeats get darker and darker, the way a tape delay does. De Gregorio described the range it covers: "With the Echobandit you can dial in warm, Gilmour-esque washes as well as fat slapback sounds1."
Controls
The control set is standard for a delay:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Speed | Sets the delay speed |
| Feedback | Sets the delay feedback, that is, how many repeats you hear |
There is no EQ on the pedal. De Gregorio found that "you won't have much trouble getting it to sit in your mix" all the same1.
What reviewers said
Delicious Audio's verdict, from its 2016 coverage:
"The Echo Bandit is pretty much everything you could want in an analog delay, and at a price point that barely breaks $100 it’s a total steal"1
Paolo De Gregorio, Delicious Audio1
De Gregorio also noted that F-Pedals as a maker focuses on "small footprint pedals with great sound, cool design and more in depth controls" than their size might suggest1.
