Fender Bassman Driver

The Fender Bassman Driver is a bass preamp pedal built around a JFET preamp circuit. Fender describes it as offering "two different voicings for different tastes", giving bass players a choice of preamp character from one pedal¹.

What it does

As a preamp, the Bassman Driver sits at the end of your chain and shapes your bass's tone before it reaches an amp or a PA. Fender built it around a JFET preamp circuit, and gearnews.com's Jef noted that "With this JFET PreAmp, you get two different voicings for different tastes," giving players a choice between two tones from the one pedal¹.

The pedal also carries an integrated cab sim. As the review put it, "A Cab sim is integrated, so your output signal can go directly into the PA," which means you can run it straight to the front of house without a bass amp on stage¹.

Controls

The pedal's Level control sets its output level, in the same way the Level control works on the Bassman Compressor from the same range¹.

Where it sits in Fender's bass range

The Bassman Driver is a preamp pedal in Fender's bass pedal line, and sits in the broader field of bass pedals. Its JFET preamp design carries two voicings, which Fender says are there "for different tastes"¹.
