The Fjord Fuzz Sol is a fuzz and vibe pedal in one box: a vintage-spec silicon Fuzz Face-style fuzz paired with a uni-vibe circuit based on Fjord Fuzz's own Frei pedal1. The two effects are completely separate, each with its own footswitch, so you can use the fuzz on its own, the vibe on its own, or stack them for the sound both circuits are famous for together2. Delicious Audio's reviewer put it simply: "The two effects, together, sound exactly the way they should: classic Jimi and beyond."2
The pedal launched in March 2024 as a limited run of 500 units, sold through dealers in the United States, France and Europe, and Australia1. It was designed in collaboration with PALF, the French dealer and demo maker3.
A fuzz and uni-vibe in one pedal
The Sol combines what Guitar Pedal X calls Fjord Fuzz Daniel's favorite take on the Fuzz Face with a variation of his Frei Uni-Vibe4. The fuzz side is a vintage-spec silicon Fuzz Face-style circuit, and the vibe side is a Frei-based uni-vibe1. Both sides are vintage voiced, with vintage dynamics, so they are not nearly as loud as Fjord Fuzz's more modern Fuzz Face variants1.
Both sides are vintage voiced with vintage dynamics, which means they are not nearly as loud as Fjord Fuzz's more modern Fuzz Face variants1. The builder describes the vibe as a "beautifully overpowered uni-vibe type chorus/phaser"2.
The pedal comes in three colourways: Cream and Gold, White and Burnt Rainbow Copper, and an all-white version1.
The controls
The Sol keeps things simple: three knobs and two footswitches.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| db (bottom right) | Fuzz level and overall volume; compresses heavily above 3 o'clock21 |
| Speed (top) | Vibe rate21 |
| Depth (bottom left) | Vibe intensity21 |
| Vibe footswitch | Engages the vibe side4 |
| Fuzz footswitch | Engages the fuzz side4 |
The single fuzz knob controls both the amount of fuzz and the overall volume2. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer noted that dialing the dB up past 3 o'clock gets very compressed, but with elegant cleanup from the guitar's volume knob1. Delicious Audio found the fuzz "at once big-sounding and defined and cleans up well when you turn down your guitar's volume"2.
On the vibe side, the reviewer's preferred settings were the Speed dialed all the way back with the Depth around noon or 1 o'clock, though dipping the Depth lower produced cooler, subtler textures1.
At 195mA, the Sol draws far more current than a typical analog fuzz pedal3. Check that your power supply has an output that can deliver it before building it into a board.
What the press said
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson reviewed the Sol at launch and again in the site's roundup of the best new fuzz pedals of 2024. He described the fuzz as offering "thick compression, sustain, croaky low end and strong guitar-volume cleanup"1. His one criticism was volume: "the Fuzz side could do with a little more volume for my preferences!"4
Comparing it with the Carl Martin Purple Moon Fuzz 'n' Vibe, a similar two-in-one design, he found the Sol "has a somewhat deeper and richer and more specifically vintage flavour to my ears!"1
Delicious Audio added the Sol to its article on the best vibe pedals, in the Fuzz'n'Vibes section2.
RockBoard's PedalPedia page for the Sol carries a demo video by Palf, the French dealer who co-designed the pedal and distributes Fjord Fuzz in France and Europe31.
Where it sits in the Fjord Fuzz range
The Sol is one of several Fjord Fuzz pedals that combine fuzz with another effect. The builder later released the Dovre sustaining fuzz-verb and the Midnattssol fuzz and vibe workstation, a larger take on the same idea with three fuzz modes and both Uni-Vibe and Resly-Tone vibe modes. For players who want just the vibe half of the Sol, the Frei uni-vibe pedal is the standalone circuit it draws on.

Questions
Does the Fjord Fuzz Sol use the two effects separately?
Yes. The fuzz and the vibe are completely separate circuits, each with its own dedicated footswitch, so you can run the fuzz alone, the vibe alone, or both together. Reviewers found the two effects stacked sound the way a fuzz and uni-vibe should, in classic Jimi Hendrix territory.
How much current does the Fjord Fuzz Sol draw?
The Sol draws 195mA, which is high for an analog fuzz and vibe pedal. That is more than many small power supplies can spare on a single output, so plan your pedalboard power around it rather than assuming a typical low-current fuzz.
Is the Fjord Fuzz Sol analog?
Yes, the Sol is an analog pedal. The fuzz side is a vintage-spec silicon Fuzz Face-style circuit, and the vibe side is based on Fjord Fuzz's Frei uni-vibe circuit, itself an analog take on the classic Uni-Vibe design.
Can the Fjord Fuzz Sol run on a battery?
The Sol runs on 9V DC with a center negative plug. With a current draw of 195mA, a battery would drain very quickly even if one could be fitted, so in practice this is a pedal you power from a mains adapter or an isolated power supply.
Who designed the Fjord Fuzz Sol?
The Sol was designed by Fjord Fuzz, the Norwegian pedal builder, in collaboration with PALF, a French dealer and demo maker who also handles Fjord Fuzz distribution in France and Europe. The vibe side draws on Fjord Fuzz's own Frei uni-vibe circuit.
