The Flamma FC13 is a compact analog phaser pedal: a phaser effect in a mini enclosure, built around a single speed control and a two-position mode switch. Flamma markets it as the FC13 Mini Analog Phaser Pedal, and it runs on a 9V DC supply with true bypass switching1. Pedal of the Day reviewed it in August 2023 as one of Flamma's newest releases2.

What it does

A phaser sweeps a notch-rich filter across your signal, producing the whooshing, jet-like sweep heard on countless rock and funk records. The FC13 does this with an analog circuit, which both Flamma and the Pedal of the Day review describe in those terms12. It is a mono pedal: a single 1/4-inch monophonic input and a single 1/4-inch monophonic output, so it takes any standard guitar cable1.

The controls

The FC13 keeps its front panel simple. There are three things to operate:

ControlWhat it does
Speed dialSets the phasing rate, from subtle to explicit2
Mode switchChooses between the vintage and modern effect modes12
FootswitchTurns the pedal off or on2

An LED shows where you stand: it stays unlit in bypass mode and lights when the pedal is active2.

Pedal of the Day's reviewer suggested treating the speed control as an experiment: "you can experiment with the speed dial to determine a [phasing] frequency that is suitably subtle or explicit for their" playing2.

Vintage and modern modes

The mode switch is the pedal's main tonal choice. Flamma lists two phaser effect modes, vintage and modern1, and Pedal of the Day described the difference in character: "with 'vintage' being warmer" and "'modern' being brighter and more dynamic"2. In practice, that gives a player one setting for a slower, rounder sweep and another for a brighter, more pronounced one, without a second pedal on the board.

Power and bypass

The FC13 runs on a 9V DC power supply12. Flamma's product page does not list a current draw figure, so if you plan to share a supply or daisy chain with other pedals, that is worth knowing before you slot it in. Switching is true bypass, which Flamma lists and Pedal of the Day calls "the industry-standard true bypass feature", meaning the pedal is out of the signal path when off2.

The FC13 is a mono pedal with a single 1/4-inch input and output. There is no stereo input, stereo output or effects loop on the maker's specification1.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day covered the FC13 on 25 August 2023, presenting it among Flamma's newest releases and describing its two effect modes, speed control and true bypass operation2.

Questions

Is the Flamma FC13 true bypass?

Yes. Flamma lists the FC13 as true bypass, and Pedal of the Day's review describes it as providing the industry-standard true bypass feature. When the pedal is bypassed, the LED stays unlit, and it lights when the effect is active.

What power supply does the Flamma FC13 need?

The FC13 is powered by a 9V DC power supply, according to both Flamma's product page and Pedal of the Day's review. Flamma does not list a current draw figure on its product page, so check the maker's documentation before sharing a supply with other pedals.

Is the Flamma FC13 analog or digital?

The FC13 is an analog phaser. Flamma markets it as the FC13 Mini Analog Phaser Pedal, and Pedal of the Day's review likewise refers to the tonal properties of the analog phaser circuit.

What is the difference between vintage and modern mode on the Flamma FC13?

The FC13 has a switch with two phaser modes. According to Pedal of the Day's review, vintage is the warmer of the two, while modern is brighter and more dynamic. The speed dial sets the phasing rate in either mode.

Is the Flamma FC13 mono or stereo?

The FC13 is mono. It has a quarter-inch monophonic input and a quarter-inch monophonic output, so it takes any standard quarter-inch guitar cable, as both Flamma's product page and Pedal of the Day's review describe.
