The Fractal Audio Axe FX 2 is an amp modeler and effects processor from Fractal Audio, built to stand in for a collection of amps and pedals in a single unit. Guitar World's demo video, presented by Carl Roa, demonstrates the Fractal Audio Axe FX 2 amp modeler and effects processor, covering both sides of what it does: amp modeling for the core of the rig and effects processing around it1.
For a player, that means one box can carry the amp and the effects chain, rather than a pedalboard feeding a separate amplifier. It belongs to the same family of all-in-one modelers as later Fractal Audio units such as the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx III, the floor-based Fractal Audio FM9, and the compact Fractal Audio AM4, as well as the board-friendly Fractal Audio AX81.
What it does
The Axe FX 2 combines two functions in one processor:
- Amp modeling: digital models of amplifiers, so the unit can take the place of a physical amp in a rig.
- Effects processing: the effects side of the signal chain, handled in the same box.
Guitar World's demo video shows the unit in use as exactly this combination, with Carl Roa demonstrating the Fractal Audio Axe FX 2 amp modeler and effects processor1.
Where it sits in Fractal Audio's range
