Free Fall Diver Huge Mini Fuzz

The Free Fall Diver Huge Mini Fuzz is a compact analog fuzz pedal from the Japanese maker Free Fall Diver. RockBoard's PedalPedia entry describes it as a "Multi Mini Muff", meaning it takes the Big Muff style of fuzz circuit, one of the most familiar fuzz designs in guitar gear, and packs it into a mini enclosure¹. If you are new to fuzz, it sits in the same family as the pedals covered on our Fuzz Pedals page: a saturated, sustaining distortion character that responds to how hard you dig in.

What it does

The Huge Mini Fuzz is the smaller sibling of the Free Fall Diver Huge Fuzz, the pedal that put the maker on the map for many players. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson listed the Huge Fuzz among mini Muff-style pedals in 2022 as a "Muff" circuit take², and in his 2024 Mini Muff compendium he described it as offering multi-Muff coverage of several Big Muff varieties, priced at $186 at the time, with the classic three-knob Muff control layout of Volume (or Level), Tone, and Sustain (or Drive)³. The Huge Mini Fuzz carries the same Multi Muff idea into a smaller footprint¹.

The reviewer's regard for the family is strong. Writing about the Huge in 2024, Karlsson said⁴⁵:

By 2025 he was calling the larger Free Fall Diver pedal "one of my all time favourites"⁴. Those verdicts are about the Huge Fuzz rather than the Mini specifically, but they give a sense of how the design has been received by the press that has covered it most closely.

How it compares

Free Fall Diver is not the only maker shrinking the Muff formula. Other mini fuzz pedals covered on this site include the Way Huge Smalls Doom Hammer Fuzz, whose Fuzz dial tailors what the maker calls its velvety harmonics, with Jim Dunlop suggesting "a low Fuzz setting for the most delightful crunch", and the Way Huge Smalls Stone Burner Sub Atomic Fuzz, which adds a sub-octave control to its fuzz⁶. Where those pedals take their own angles on fuzz, the Huge Mini Fuzz stays on the Muff path, in analog form, at 9V DC center negative power¹.
