The FTelettronica Amygdala is a triple active looper with an input buffer, made by FTelettronica. It sits on a pedalboard to manage three effect loops at once, with a BLEND and LEVEL control for each channel, a phase switch on each channel to avoid counterphases, and a double output that splits the signal into two amps1.

What it does

The Amygdala combines two jobs in one box. As a looper, it lets you place three groups of pedals into separate switchable loops, so you can bring them in and out of the signal path without tapping each pedal individually. As a buffer, it keeps the signal from dulling as it passes through long cable runs and multiple pedals, a job covered in more depth on the Buffer Pedals page1.

Each of the three channels carries its own set of controls:

  • BLEND per channel, for mixing looped and dry signal
  • LEVEL per channel, for setting each loop's level
  • Phase switch per channel, to avoid counterphases between loops1

The double output is the other distinguishing feature: it splits the signal into two amps, so one pedalboard can feed a two-amp rig1.

How it is powered

The Amygdala runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 30mA1. That current draw is modest by switcher standards, but like most 9V DC pedals it needs a center-negative supply rather than a battery arrangement, so a standard isolated pedal power output will run it1.

Where it sits among the alternatives

The Amygdala is unusual in combining a three-loop switcher with a buffer and a two-amp splitter. Most buffered loopers on the site do one of those jobs: the One Control Xenagama Tail Loop MKIII is a loop switcher, the EarthQuaker Devices Buffer/Splitter handles buffering and splitting, and the JHS Pedals Buffered Splitter splits with buffering. If you need all three functions in one unit, the Amygdala's feature set covers them together1.
